I just came across this article thanks to an evefest 2017 video and this article made me sad to hear about CZ :( I just got back into playing eve last year or so as well. I hope there are still some that enjoy the game.

Also, thanks a lot for the overview of the mess that is EVE maps. When I planned my first route from hisec to null, I finally understood why the Enterprise cannot be flown without a navigator. Unfortunately, I am in a frigate and just do not have the space.

I have played EVE for 10 years. The majority of that time has been spent doing lowsec content, but i've lived in wormhole space, nullsec, and most regions in hisec over the years. I have to say that the biggest problem people run into when assessing areas of gameplay is they expect one area to have the same rules and requirements as the other.

They do not.

People LIVE in different areas of the game because that's the content they're looking for. So, so many get tripped up on this part of the sandbox; that you can live, and play, in any area of the game you want. There is no "main story" quest, no common pve thread everyone has to progress through. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING in this game, is open-ended. Different areas have different content that the people who inhabit that area prefer, but there's nothing binding or holding them there, other than the boundaries of their comfort zone. Do you think that the game is moving in a bad direction? Provide precedent for your reasoning on how exactly it's going to be changing for the future, not excuses for refusing to adapt. If you love the game long enough to stick with it for years and years, then you love it enough to try something new in it.

I am STILL discovering new parts of this now 14-year old masterpiece of science fiction. Null-sec cosmos agents. Ghost sites. Even science & industry; there is literally something for everyone. Now I don't begrudge people bemoaning fundamental changes to this game; it's important to voice your concerns. But don't quit it or write it off because you haven't tried another part of EVE for years, and don't have an idea about what the desire and history for that group is. This game doesn't have a culture, it has nationalities and histories; it's old and deep enough that quite a few people i've met who have their kids playing the game and they're YOUNGER than EVE is.

Eve is real.

Well, yes and no. Much of the CZ crowd kinda got older and grew out of the game a bit. I certainly feel apathetic about Eve from time to time, but I try to stay positive. There's a lot more I could write on the topic, but it'd probably read a bit like another "eve is dead" post.
